Reports circulating on social media suggest that U.S. President Donald Trump is considering a policy to block American companies from outsourcing IT and call center work to India.
The claims, amplified by right-wing activist Laura Loomer, argue the move is part of a broader effort to bring jobs back to the United States.
Although not officially confirmed, the idea has reportedly gained support from Trump’s former trade advisor, Peter Navarro.
Loomer framed the proposal under the slogan “Make Call Centres American Again!”—arguing that ending outsourcing would improve customer service quality for U.S. consumers.
Her posts tapped into common frustrations with offshore call centers and claimed Americans should not be forced to “press a number to speak with someone who doesn’t speak English.”
The idea mirrors Trump’s long-standing “America First” agenda, which focused heavily on domestic job creation and tariffs on imported goods.
Extending this protectionist strategy from goods to services would represent a significant escalation, potentially reshaping the global IT services industry.
While no formal policy has been announced, the proposal fits within Trump’s past trade actions against China and other nations.
If pursued, it could strain U.S.–India economic ties and disrupt the global outsourcing ecosystem.
