A 30-year-old Infosys employee was arrested after he was caught secretly recording a female colleague inside the women’s washroom at the company’s office in Electronic City, Bengaluru. The incident happened on Monday morning and shocked both the staff and company management.
The accused, identified as Swapnil Nagesh Mali from Sangli, Maharashtra, was working as a senior associate consultant at Infosys. According to the complaint filed by the woman, she noticed a suspicious reflection and movement while she was in the washroom. She soon realized that someone was recording her from the next cubicle. When she looked closer, she saw Mali standing on the toilet seat in the adjacent stall with his phone, filming her.
The woman screamed and rushed out to alert her colleagues. The HR team quickly intervened, stopped Mali from fleeing, and checked his phone. They reportedly found videos of the complainant along with another secretly recorded video of a different female employee. Although Mali tried to delete the videos and apologised, the HR staff took screenshots for evidence.
Infosys issued a statement confirming the incident and said that the employee has been immediately removed from the company. The company added that it took swift action to support the victim, helped her file a police complaint, and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
“Infosys is committed to maintaining a safe, harassment-free workplace and follows a strict zero-tolerance policy,” the company said.
A case has been registered under the Information Technology Act and Section 77 (Voyeurism) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police confirmed Mali’s arrest and said that a detailed investigation is ongoing. The incident has raised serious concerns over workplace safety and privacy, prompting discussions about stricter measures in corporate environments.
