Perplexity launches secure AI platform with free access for federal users

Perplexity is offering federal users free access to its advanced AI models with zero data usage protections, while also launching a government-specific enterprise platform that integrates agency knowledge bases, available via GSA at just $0.25 per agency for 15 months

AI research company Perplexity has announced the launch of Perplexity for Government, a new initiative designed to make its AI tools more accessible and secure for federal agencies. The rollout comes as Washington accelerates efforts to modernize public sector operations with artificial intelligence, following directives like the Office of Management and Budget’s AI Action Plan.

Perplexity stated that thousands of government employees already use its platform daily. With this new offering, the company is taking a dual approach to address both access and data security concerns.

Zero-data usage and enterprise integration

Under the first part of the initiative, all federal users—whether or not they have a paid subscription—will receive access to Perplexity’s most advanced AI models. To address data privacy, the company is implementing “zero data usage” protections, ensuring that prompts from users with government email domains are not stored or used to train AI models. These protections apply regardless of login status, and agencies can also submit their IP ranges for expanded coverage.

The second component is Perplexity Enterprise Pro for Government, a tailored version of its enterprise-grade platform. This edition will allow integration with internal agency knowledge bases and offer access to a mix of proprietary and third-party AI systems. To encourage adoption, the platform will be made available through government procurement channels such as the GSA Multiple Award Schedule, at a nominal rate of $0.25 per agency for the first 15 months.

Bridging the AI gap in public sector

Until now, many federal agencies have relied on publicly available AI tools, which often lack enterprise-level safeguards. Perplexity’s move aims to close this gap by offering a secure, policy-compliant alternative that aligns with federal AI modernization goals.

By combining no-cost access, enhanced privacy protections, and an affordable enterprise option, Perplexity is positioning itself as a trusted AI partner for U.S. government agencies navigating the next wave of digital transformation.
