Spotify Cracks Down on AI Deepfakes and Spam, Removes 75 Million Fake Tracks

Spotify, the world’s leading music streaming platform, has removed more than 75 million spam tracks as part of its latest crackdown on fraudulent music uploads, AI deepfakes, and voice impersonation. With generative AI reshaping the music industry, Spotify is tightening its policies to safeguard artists and listeners.

The company has introduced stricter impersonation rules, banning vocal deepfakes and unauthorized use of artists’ voices unless explicitly approved. To further protect creators, Spotify is working with music distributors to detect and prevent fraudulent uploads while investing in faster resolution of content mismatch cases.

A new AI-powered music spam filter will be rolled out this autumn. It is designed to identify mass uploads, duplicate tracks, and artificially short recordings. By curbing these spam tactics, Spotify aims to protect royalties for legitimate musicians and prevent spammers from exploiting payout systems.

Spotify emphasized that while AI can enhance music creation, its misuse threatens creativity, trust, and the integrity of streaming. These new policies mark a significant step in ensuring a fair, secure, and transparent ecosystem for artists and fans worldwide.
