In a groundbreaking move to promote digital literacy, AI education, and technology skills among young learners, the Tamil Nadu government has launched the Tamil Nadu Schools Programme for AI, Robotics and Knowledge of Online Tools (TN SPARK). This innovative programme is set to equip students in Classes 6 to 9 from government schools with essential skills like artificial intelligence (AI), coding for kids, robotics training, and online learning tools.
The initiative aims to bridge the digital divide between private and government schools by ensuring equitable access to STEM education, helping students from rural and underprivileged backgrounds stay competitive in today’s tech-driven world. The pilot phase covers 85 government schools in Coimbatore district, featuring 78 middle schools, 4 high schools, and 3 higher secondary schools. Over 880 hi-tech lab computers are being deployed to deliver hands-on coding workshops, AI applications, and interactive learning experiences.
The TN SPARK syllabus, set to be fully implemented after quarterly exams in October 2025, integrates computer science fundamentals, AI-powered learning, data visualization, text-to-image generation, animation tools, and cyber security training. Students are introduced to platforms like Scratch, Blockly, Turtle Art, and HTML basics, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and digital fluency.

Bilingual textbooks in Tamil and English have been developed to make learning accessible, and trained teachers in mathematics and science lead engaging lessons. Early reports suggest that students are highly enthusiastic, often opting for TN SPARK classes over conventional subjects.
By promoting future-ready education, AI awareness, and technology-driven learning, TN SPARK aims to empower students for academic success and careers in artificial intelligence, robotics engineering, software development, and other high-growth digital sectors. This programme aligns with national and global efforts to ensure inclusive education, tech empowerment, and digital transformation for all students across India.
