A new study has identified the countries where the rise of AI is least likely to erode human-driven soft power. Incorporating data such as the Human Development Index (HDI), Global Talent Competitiveness Index, Innovation Index, Global Soft Power Index, and metrics like Nobel and Oscar winners, this research computes a “Human Soft Power Score” for each nation—highlighting where human creativity and influence will endure despite automation.
It finds that by 2030, AI could displace the equivalent of around 300 million full-time jobs globally. Yet, some countries stand out for bolstering their human soft power. Leading the ranking is the United States, with an unrivaled tally of 428 Nobel laureates and a global soft power index of 79, underscoring its scientific and diplomatic might. Switzerland sits second with a soft power reliance score of 83, driven by its world-leading innovation ecosystem, high salaries, and “global talent” competitiveness of 79.
The United Kingdom follows in third, thanks to its 143 Nobel prizes and soft power index of 72. Germany occupies fourth place, buoyed by 115 laureates and an HDI of 0.96. France rounds out the top five, celebrated for cultural clout (12 Oscar wins, highest globally) and a soft power index of 67.
Other noteworthy nations include Sweden, Denmark, Japan, Canada, and the Netherlands—each distinguished by high human development, innovation rankings, and strong talent retention.
As the study’s authors note: “AI can enhance efficiency, but it cannot replace what makes nations truly influential: their culture, creativity, and human insight.” Countries that continue investing in education, leadership and the arts will preserve their uniqueness and turn human potential into lasting global impact. In a world increasingly shaped by algorithms, it is this blend of talent, values and innovation that ensures enduring influence and meaningful progress.
