Designed with privacy and safety in mind, alerts are sent only once to friends who already have location-sharing access, with Snap Map sharing off by default.
Snapchat has introduced a new safety feature called Home Safe, aimed at enhancing user safety and providing peace of mind to friends and family. Whether returning from a first date, a concert, or a weekend trip, Snapchat Home Safe ensures a trusted contact is automatically notified when a user reaches home safely—without needing to send a manual update.
Users can set their home location by tapping their Bitmoji on Snap Map and selecting “My Home.” To activate the feature, simply open a chat, tap the Map icon, and select Home Safe. This sends a one-time alert to a chosen friend or family member who already has location-sharing permissions. Importantly, Snap Map sharing is off by default, meaning privacy remains in user control.
The Home Safe feature is designed to protect user data while enhancing digital safety. Alerts are only sent to approved contacts, and once the notification is delivered, it automatically turns off.
With more than 400 million monthly active users on Snap Map, Snapchat continues to expand its safety tools. Last year, Family Center was introduced to help parents monitor their children’s activity. Now, Home Safe builds on that commitment by offering real-time safety notifications for all users, making Snapchat a safer platform for young users, travelers, and anyone on the go.
In an era where online safety features are in high demand, Snapchat Home Safe sets a new standard for social media safety tools. By combining location sharing, privacy controls, and automatic safety alerts, Snapchat reinforces its commitment to user security while keeping friends and families connected.
