This change will not affect the existing Prime membership cost—₹299 per month or ₹1,499 per year—and all other Prime benefits like free delivery, Prime Music, and early deals will continue as usual. Current subscribers don’t need to take any action unless they want to upgrade to the ad-free plan.
Amazon says the number of ads will be much lower compared to traditional TV and other streaming platforms. The company explains that including ads will help them invest more in quality content over the long term. However, even if users choose the ad-free plan, Amazon’s MX Player will still show ads. This is because MX Player follows a different model that is entirely supported by ads.
Amazon has already informed Indian customers about this change via email. The message explains that the goal is to continue offering great content while keeping subscription prices unchanged. "Starting June 17th, 2025, Prime Video movies and TV shows will include limited advertisements. This will allow us to continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time."
In short, if you want to continue watching ad-free content on Prime Video after June 17, 2025, you’ll need to pay a little extra. Otherwise, you’ll see a few ads during your viewing experience.
