GoDaddy has introduced its new Developer Platform, enabling developers and AI-powered coding tools to search, purchase and manage domains directly within development environments, streamlining domain workflows and reducing manual intervention across the entire lifecycle.
GoDaddy has launched its new Developer Platform, a solution designed to simplify domain management for developers working alongside AI coding assistants, automated workflows and intelligent software agents. The platform integrates domain-related services directly into developer environments, eliminating the need to switch between coding tools and web browsers for essential domain tasks.
The launch reflects the growing role of artificial intelligence in software development, where developers increasingly rely on AI-powered assistants to build websites and applications. However, domain registration and configuration have largely remained manual processes requiring users to navigate registrar websites separately.
Bringing domain management into developer workflows
With the new platform, GoDaddy aims to unify the complete domain lifecycle within the tools developers already use, including terminals, AI chat interfaces and coding assistants. The integrated workflow allows users to search for domains, complete registrations, configure DNS settings and manage domains without leaving their development environment.
"AI is fundamentally changing how software is created and the infrastructure behind the internet has to evolve with it," said Travis Muhlestein, chief technology officer of product AI at GoDaddy. "Our Developer Platform now connects GoDaddy domain services directly into developer tools, giving our customers, whether they have one domain or thousands, the ability to complete the entire domain lifecycle. The result is faster domain search, purchase and configuration – going from idea to a live online presence in minutes."
Platform features focus on automation and security
The GoDaddy Developer Platform introduces a range of capabilities intended to support both developers and AI agents. Among its key features are new domain APIs that provide programmatic access to domain search, name suggestions, availability checks, pricing, purchasing, DNS configuration and domain management through a single interface.
The platform also incorporates modern OAuth-based authentication, enabling developers to grant AI agents access only to the specific resources they require. To maintain user control, GoDaddy has built in safeguards such as scoped permissions, mandatory price confirmation before purchases and approval flows for irreversible actions.
Another major addition is a new command-line interface (CLI), allowing developers to access the platform directly from terminal environments. The company has also redesigned its developer portal with documentation optimized for large language models (LLMs), guided onboarding and faster API integration.
Designed for developers, agencies and domain professionals
GoDaddy said the initial release focuses on managing the complete domain lifecycle but is intended to serve a broad range of users, including independent developers, web designers, agencies, domain investors and resellers handling multiple client environments.
Looking ahead, the company plans to expand the platform with additional capabilities such as investor workflows, aftermarket APIs, automated domain repair, bulk domain operations, reseller tools and integrations with more GoDaddy product APIs.
The GoDaddy Developer Platform is now available free of charge worldwide. Existing customers using the company's legacy APIs can continue using them without disruption while also having the option to migrate to the new beta platform at any time.
