Hybrid-electric aircraft startup LAT Aerospace, founded by Deepinder Goyal, has acquired Gurugram-based defence robotics firm Sharang Shakti for an undisclosed sum, marking its formal entry into the defence technology space.
Announcing the move on LinkedIn, Goyal described the acquisition as a strategic step toward building indigenous defence capabilities alongside LAT Aerospace’s broader mission of developing next-generation civil aviation platforms in India. He emphasized that civil aviation and defence share a common technology backbone, spanning autonomy, perception systems, sensing, navigation, guidance, and advanced control systems.
Founded in 2023, Sharang Shakti specializes in anti-drone and aerial threat mitigation systems, including drone detection radars and interceptor technologies. The startup was established by Karan Goyal, Chirag Singla, Gaurav Kumar, Jitendra Singh, and Rishabh Choudhary.
With this acquisition, LAT Aerospace aims to enhance its capabilities in autonomous systems, defence electronics, and aerospace-grade control technologies—critical components for both military and civilian aerospace applications.
LAT Aerospace, launched in 2024, is focused on developing hybrid-electric regional aircraft and VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) platforms to improve regional air mobility. Goyal co-founded the company in early 2025 and has invested $20 million to date, with reports suggesting it is in discussions to raise an additional $50 million.
The development follows Goyal’s recent decision to step down as Group CEO of Zomato’s parent company, Eternal, signaling a sharper focus on aerospace innovation.
