New iPhone Phishing Scam Alert Issued by I4C
The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has warned iPhone users about a new phishing campaign targeting people whose devices are lost or stolen.
Cybercriminals are reportedly impersonating Apple Support and “Find My iPhone” services through fraudulent SMS messages.
The attackers send urgent messages claiming the missing device can be located, secured, or erased.
Victims are redirected to fake iCloud or Apple Support websites designed to steal Apple ID credentials and OTP verification codes.
Investigators said the scam is highly effective because it targets users during moments of panic and emotional stress after losing their phones.
Once attackers gain access to Apple IDs, they can disable security protections and remove devices from linked accounts.
The advisory urges users not to click suspicious SMS links or share OTPs on unverified websites.
Users should access device recovery services only through Apple’s official iCloud portal and keep “Find My iPhone” enabled.
Authorities also advised users to report cyber fraud incidents through India’s cybercrime portal or helpline 1930 and immediately block stolen devices through the CEIR platform.
