The new feature enables ChatGPT to automate reminders, recurring activities, and topic monitoring, allowing the AI assistant to perform background tasks and deliver updates without requiring repeated user prompts.
OpenAI has begun rolling out a new feature for ChatGPT that enables users to schedule and automate tasks, marking another step in the company’s efforts to transform its chatbot into a more proactive digital assistant.
Called Scheduled Tasks, the update allows users to set up actions that can run automatically at designated times or under predefined conditions. The feature is designed to help ChatGPT handle recurring activities, monitor topics of interest, and send notifications when important updates occur, reducing the need for repeated manual prompts.
The company said the feature will be available through a dedicated section within ChatGPT, providing users with greater control over automated workflows and reminders.
New hub for managing automations
The Scheduled Tasks tab will appear in ChatGPT’s sidebar and serve as a centralized dashboard for managing active automations. Users will be able to create one-time reminders, recurring tasks, and monitoring activities that track specific subjects and notify them only when relevant developments take place.
In addition to exact scheduling, the feature supports broader time ranges such as morning, afternoon, or evening. This flexibility is intended to make task creation faster and more convenient, particularly for users who do not require precise timings.
A dedicated “Scheduled” page will also be accessible across both web and mobile versions of ChatGPT. The page will provide an overview of all active automations, enabling users to review, edit, pause, or manage tasks from a single location.
Replacing Pulse and expanding AI agent capabilities
The launch of Scheduled Tasks coincides with the planned phase-out of Pulse, an existing ChatGPT feature that will be discontinued over the coming weeks. OpenAI says the new system offers a more structured and comprehensive approach to task management.
Task limits will vary depending on subscription plans. ChatGPT Go users can maintain up to three active tasks, while Plus subscribers can create up to five. Business and Education accounts will support up to ten active tasks, and Pro and Enterprise users can manage up to fifteen.
The company has also outlined certain limitations. Automated tasks can run no more than once per hour, and inactive tasks may be paused automatically if they remain unused for extended periods.
The rollout reflects OpenAI’s broader strategy of evolving ChatGPT beyond a conversational tool into an AI assistant capable of independently handling routine activities, monitoring information, and supporting users with ongoing, context-aware assistance.
