The company is celebrating its first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru by making its paid ChatGPT Go plan free for one year to all users in India
OpenAI has announced that its ChatGPT Go plan—a paid subscription tier offering enhanced features—will be free for users in India for one full year, starting November 4. The move coincides with OpenAI’s first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, marking a major milestone in its growing engagement with Indian developers and users.
Celebrating growth in a key AI market
OpenAI said the initiative recognizes India’s “enthusiasm and creativity,” as the country has emerged among its fastest-growing global markets. Since ChatGPT Go’s India launch in August at ₹399 per month, paid subscriptions have doubled within a month, underscoring rapid adoption across both professional and personal use cases.
“The response from Indian users has been phenomenal,” OpenAI said in a statement. “To celebrate our DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, we are making ChatGPT Go free for one year for everyone in India who signs up during the promotional period.”
The offer is available to both new and existing users who register during the limited-time window beginning November 4. Current ChatGPT Go subscribers will also receive an additional free year automatically.
What users get with ChatGPT Go
ChatGPT Go provides access to advanced features powered by OpenAI’s GPT-5 model, including higher message limits, daily image generation, larger file uploads, and longer conversation memory.
Indian users can activate the offer by visiting the ChatGPT website or app, signing in, selecting “Upgrade your plan,” and choosing ChatGPT Go to enable the free subscription.
India at the heart of OpenAI’s expansion
India has become OpenAI’s second-largest market, reflecting the nation’s growing appetite for AI tools and productivity platforms. The free offer also aligns with rising competition, as Google and Perplexity AI have introduced similar free plans in India to capture the country’s expanding AI user base.
With this initiative, OpenAI aims to further cement its foothold in one of the world’s most dynamic and innovation-driven digital ecosystems.
