Shri Savitur Prasad, Secretary, Department of Information & Technology, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, spoke about the latest e-governance initiatives taken by the Delhi Govt. One of the projects undertaken by the Delhi Govt. is TETRA, which played an important role in the successful completion of the Commonwealth Games.
“Technology is seen to have played a pivotal role in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games. Amidst all the controversies that have been covered, the great things have been skipped by the media. One of the systems that was extensively used was the TETRA. TETRA is the most futuristic set up jointly by HCL and Motorola. The best part is that the Delhi Govt. has set the entire system without purchasing it, as the money has been invested by the two companies. The entire DTC buses deployed (around 574) for the transport of the games athletes and the officials were under the TETRA monitoring system. TETRA has been earlier used in the last Olympic Games held in Beijing and will also be used during the London Olympic Games.”

Addressing the august gathering, Benhur Mesfin, Director & GM, Wireless Network Solutions (WNS), Asia Pacific, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions, said, “When we talk about our businesses and our future, what comes to mind is a saying by a Computer Scientist who said that the best way to predict future is to invent it. Ever since then, there have been a lot of innovations and many scientists are working towards inventing a better future.”
“Technology is the means to an end and the end is solving the customer’s needs. One of the key differentiators that VARs can bring is to have that knowledge, competency that allows them to pull together the right technology. Doing this will build an everlasting relationship in that business with the customers. The success in business is not based on the ability to simply change, but it depends on our ability to change faster than our competitors, faster than our customers.”
According to Alok Bharadwaj, Sr. VP, Canon India Pvt. Ltd., it is a challenge to take the $ 80 billion IT industry to $ 300 billion industry in ten years’ time. He further said, “Not only are we going to make this industry so big, but we are going to be its beneficiaries too. The size and scale is very important, but the speed is all the more crucial. As we enter the next decade, every single aspect of governance, large enterprises, consumers and entrepreneurs is driven by technology. One sees getting impacted by four things of technology in IT - digitization, connectivity, mobility and convergence. Also, entrepreneurial depth is going to increase in the country and more into the tier-II and tier-III towns. And this would mean adoption of technology which is very, very important.”
Som Satsangi, Director, Enterprise Storage Servers and Networking, HP India Sales Pvt. Ltd., underscored the need for public-private partnership.
“One thing is clear that the governments there work very closely with the community like ours to work for the entire ecosystem to drive IT and technology. HP is a company that invests more than $4 billion on IT innovation, and this is true for all the other organizations. So, if all the OEMs and the principal vendors decide to make India a proud country to live in, we need to make more investments towards the government, government bodies rather than maintaining a customer-vendor kind of a relationship.”
Talking about the business strategy of Oracle, Prittam Kalasskar, GM, Distribution, Oracle India, said, “For us, partners here are a key driving force for the revenues which we drive in India. If you look back a couple of years ago, Oracle was predominantly looked upon as an organization which worked only between large partners. But I would say over the last 3-4 years, our approach to the whole business has changed.”
Albert Tung, MD, ASUS India, said, “Motherboard is a very sophisticated technology, but in a channel we want to keep it very simple and nurture an environment of mutual sharing, mutual trust, and mutual benefit. We believe that only trust can drive the channel and mutual reliance is very important.”
Krishna Vamsi, Manager - Product Marketing, APAC, AMD India, said, “When applications are becoming more demanding, it is the combination of CPU and GPU which will give the right experience to the customers. Being in this unique advantageous position, we are going to launch some innovative products or accelerated processing units by the beginning of 2011.”
Last but not the least, the vendors took the opportunity to give exposure to their products by setting up stalls, which were visited by the guests in large numbers. The vendors included HP, Canon, Cyberoam, Epson, AMD, WatchGuard, Alvarion, Oracle, Asus, Bestnet, TVS-E, Simmtronics and DigiLink.
