Digital India Bridged the Gap, Didn’t Widen It: PM Modi Reflects on 10 Years of Tech Transformation
2025-07-01
PM Modi's remarks highlight how technology, when inclusive by design, can narrow divides and accelerate India’s socio-economic growth.
On the 10th anniversary of the Digital India programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that technology has played a unifying, rather than divisive, role in the country’s development journey. In a reflective LinkedIn post on July 1, 2025, PM Modi stated that digitisation has reduced the gap between the haves and the have-nots, contrary to fears that it might deepen social inequality.
“While decades were spent doubting the ability of Indians to use technology, we changed this approach and trusted the ability of Indians to embrace it,” wrote the Prime Minister. He credited the Digital India initiative with eliminating middlemen, promoting transparency, enhancing government service delivery, and empowering citizens across socio-economic backgrounds.
The post marks a milestone moment for one of India’s most ambitious governance initiatives, launched in 2015 to digitally empower the nation through broadband connectivity, e-governance platforms, digital literacy, and inclusive technology adoption.
In addition to PM Modi’s message, the Digital India Corporation rolled out a nationwide campaign, including full-page advertisements in leading newspapers, celebrating a decade of transformative impact. The initiative has since catalyzed the growth of UPI, DigiLocker, Aadhaar-linked services, and various e-governance platforms that have streamlined access to benefits, education, health, and financial services.
