HCL Group to invest ₹500 crore in Lucknow IT City expansion, creating 6,000 jobs

The planned expansion will add up to 9.5 lakh sq ft of space for 4,500 professionals, as HCLTech marks a decade in Lucknow and announces new AI skilling initiatives for Uttar Pradesh's students.

HCL Group has announced a ₹500 crore investment to expand its IT City campus in Lucknow, a move expected to generate about 6,000 direct and indirect jobs. HCLTech chairperson Roshni Nadar Malhotra made the announcement as the company marked 10 years of operations in the city.

The new phase will add capacity of up to 9.5 lakh sq ft, enough to accommodate 4,500 technology professionals. The group said the project would strengthen Lucknow's position as a major technology and global capability centre hub.

Skilling drive and new centre

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the chief guest at the event, praised HCLTech for its contribution to the state's technology and talent ecosystem.

On the skilling front, HCLTech said it will train 1,000 students across the state in AI and allied technologies through its LITMUS programme during FY27. Its TechBee programme has already trained and employed more than 2,200 candidates from Uttar Pradesh.

The group also inaugurated the HCL-GUVI Emerging Technology Centre at HCL IT City. The facility is meant to equip students and working professionals with skills in AI, data analytics and other emerging technologies.

Leaders on the partnership

Adityanath said Uttar Pradesh is moving towards becoming a trillion-dollar economy, with contributions from varied sectors reflecting the principle of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas." He described Lucknow's AI City as central to that ambition and credited HCL IT City with anchoring the region's technology story over the past decade. He thanked the company for its continued business investment and community initiatives that support inclusive growth.

Malhotra called Uttar Pradesh the group's "janmabhoomi and karmabhoomi," noting that HCL began its journey in the state 50 years ago and helped lay the foundations of India's technology industry. With the group celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, she said the expansion reflects its trust in the state's talent and ambition, and its confidence in Uttar Pradesh's rise as a destination for technology-led growth under the chief minister's leadership.

A decade of growth

Since beginning operations in 2016, HCL IT City has grown into one of HCLTech's key global delivery centres. It now employs more than 12,500 people and serves over 150 global enterprises.

The company attributes much of this growth to its focus on developing local talent. It also works with more than 40 engineering colleges in the region, aiming to deepen industry-academia collaboration and create clearer career pathways for students.
