Breaking News
The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation has introduced a new feature designed to tackle one of the most common issues faced by online train ticket users—failed bookings despite successful payment deductions. The update, called “Resume Retry Booking,” is expected to streamline the reservation process and enhance user convenience.
Online ticket booking through IRCTC is generally efficient, but passengers often face frustration when a payment is deducted without ticket confirmation. In such cases, users previously had to restart the entire process, including searching for trains, re-entering passenger details, and making a fresh payment while waiting for a refund from the failed transaction.
Seamless Booking Without Repeated Payments
The newly introduced feature addresses this challenge by allowing users to continue their booking without making another payment, provided the amount has already been deducted. To use this option, passengers must select IRCTC iPay as their payment method during the transaction.
If a payment fails after deduction, the system now provides a “Resume” or “Retry” option. This enables users to pick up the booking process from where it stopped. The platform identifies the earlier transaction using the same payment ID and links the deducted amount to the pending booking, eliminating the need for a second payment attempt.
Conditions and Benefits for Users
The feature is particularly useful during peak booking periods when ticket availability is limited and time is critical. By reducing the need to restart bookings, it increases the chances of securing confirmed seats.
However, there are certain conditions attached. The feature works only with IRCTC iPay and requires that the booking amount remains unchanged. It may not function with other payment gateways where funds are directly processed through banks. In cases where the retry attempt also fails, the deducted amount will be refunded to the user as per standard procedures.
Overall, the update reflects IRCTC’s ongoing efforts to improve its digital services and make ticket booking more reliable. With train travel remaining a vital mode of transport for millions, such enhancements are expected to significantly improve the user experience and reduce transaction-related stress.
