India has emerged as the global nucleus for GCCs (Global Capability Centers), hosting nearly 1,900 centres, employing over 1.9 million professionals, and generating more than $60 billion annually.
GCCs (Global Capability Centers) are shifting from backend execution to strategic ownership, with over 50% now driving innovation, AI adoption, and enterprise-wide decision-making.
Today, nearly 90% of centres operate as multi-functional hubs, handling product development, R&D, and analytics, deeply integrated with global headquarters.
India is also powering distributed work models, enabling 24/7 operations and “follow-the-sun” strategies, while expansion into Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities is decentralizing talent.
Leadership dynamics are evolving rapidly, with over 6,500 global roles now managed from India, reflecting a strong rise in cross-border leadership and reduced dependence on expat-led structures.
At the same time, GCCs are advancing high-value work, with over 58% investing in AI-driven capabilities, reinforcing India’s position in innovation-led transformation.
Despite challenges in managing global teams, India is set to become the core of global operating models, with its workforce projected to reach 3.4 million by 2030.
