International Women's Day is celebrated every year on March 8th across India and the world. It is a day to honour the strength, resilience, and brilliance of women everywhere. India’s technology sector is witnessing a shift from basic digital participation to women taking on advanced AI roles.
A report says, women currently represent about one in five professionals in India’s tech workforce.
This figure is expected to grow rapidly, with more than 3.3 lakh women projected to hold AI-related roles by 2027.
Notably, 41% of women technologists now prefer careers in AI and machine learning.
Women are also gaining ground in emerging deeptech fields.
They account for around 15% of doctoral candidates in generative AI and are increasingly active in areas such as prompt engineering and AI-powered cybersecurity.
Participation is particularly strong in data analytics and business intelligence, where women represent nearly 30–35%.
Many are also contributing to responsible AI development, focusing on ethics, privacy, and bias mitigation.
To strengthen their future prospects, experts highlight five essential skills: prompt engineering and design, data storytelling and visualization, no-code AI automation, AI ethics and compliance, and human–AI collaboration.
Moving forward, Developing these capabilities will help women take leadership roles in the next wave of AI-driven innovation.
