Breaking News
Elon Mus has launched a new AI-powered photo editing feature integrated into its platform, marking another step in its push toward AI-driven user experiences. The tool, powered by its in-house chatbot Grok AI, is currently being rolled out to iOS users, with Android support expected in the near future.
The feature was announced by X’s Product Head Nikita Bier, who highlighted its integration within the app’s post composer. The update introduces both standard editing tools such as drawing and text, along with advanced AI-driven capabilities designed to simplify image manipulation.
AI Editing Through Natural Language Commands
The Grok-powered editor allows users to modify images using simple text prompts. Instead of manually editing visuals, users can instruct the AI to perform specific changes—such as altering the setting of an image or applying effects. In demonstrations shared by the company, users were able to transform an image’s context and apply blur effects to selected areas, including faces.
This approach mirrors capabilities seen in other AI tools but distinguishes itself by being embedded directly within the content creation flow on X. The goal is to enable seamless editing while users are composing posts, reducing the need for external applications.
Rollout Amid Ongoing AI Scrutiny
The phased rollout and relatively limited feature set come as X continues to navigate scrutiny over its AI tools. Grok AI has previously faced criticism after generating inappropriate or sensitive content, including controversial image outputs. The company is also dealing with legal challenges, including a lawsuit in California alleging misuse of AI-generated imagery.
Alongside the photo editor, X has been expanding Grok’s role across the platform. The company recently introduced automatic translations powered by Grok, replacing third-party services like Google Translate. The feature aims to make posts accessible across languages while allowing users to opt out if they prefer original text.
Grok is increasingly central to the platform’s functionality, with dedicated access points and integration into conversations for added context and interaction. As X continues to build out its AI ecosystem, the company is balancing rapid feature development with growing concerns around content safety and responsible AI use.
