Agentic AI could reshape the enterprise software market by exposing up to $234 billion in enterprise application spending to "agentic arbitrage" by 2030, according to Gartner, as AI agents increasingly execute tasks across multiple applications without requiring users to interact with traditional software interfaces.
The analyst firm estimates that the shift will affect roughly 20% of enterprise software-as-a-service (SaaS) spending by the end of the decade.
Gartner describes agentic arbitrage as the ability of AI agents to complete workflows across multiple enterprise systems, reducing the need for employees to use separate applications and dashboards.
"Agentic AI changes the economics of software," said George Brocklehurst, managing vice president at Gartner.
"Agentic systems deliver outcomes directly, bypassing traditional user experience-heavy applications and making the software invisible. This breaks the link between user growth and revenue growth for many enterprise software vendors," he said.
According to Gartner, the transition is already underway and will fundamentally change how enterprise software is built, priced and consumed.
The firm argues that the shift will redefine the concept of the "SaaSpocalypse"—a term often used to describe AI's disruption of traditional SaaS vendors. Rather than eliminating SaaS, Gartner expects AI to transform the market into new delivery and monetization models.
"This is less an apocalypse and more of a metamorphosis," Brocklehurst said. "SaaS will not be destroyed; it will emerge in a different form."
The report says enterprise buyers are also changing how they evaluate software investments. Instead of purchasing additional applications or AI-enabled features, organizations are increasingly prioritizing measurable business outcomes.
"Enterprise buyers will deemphasize buying more new tools or dashboards," Brocklehurst said. "They want better outcomes, and adding more AI features often creates more cost, not better outcomes."
Gartner noted that some software providers are already offering agentic platforms capable of executing end-to-end workflows, orchestrating tasks across multiple enterprise systems and retaining organizational knowledge and customer context. However, these deployments currently require significant professional services engagement.
The analyst firm expects AI agents to reduce the competitive importance of traditional software user interfaces, creating opportunities for both incumbent vendors and AI-native startups.
"As organizations increasingly use agentic AI systems, the user interface is no longer a differentiation," Brocklehurst said. "Legacy SaaS market share will be cannibalized by incumbents and taken by new entrants delivering horizontal agentic platforms."
For established software vendors, Gartner recommends shifting from interface-driven products and seat-based licensing models toward outcome-based offerings that embed AI agents directly into business processes while preserving customer-specific knowledge and context.
The firm also sees opportunities for systems integrators, service providers and AI-native startups that can provide an agentic layer across enterprise applications, automate cross-domain workflows and deliver measurable business outcomes.
"While this shift is posing an existential threat for vendors defending legacy dashboards and seat-based models, it creates a substantial revenue opportunity for vendors enabling services and platforms that support agentic cross-domain workflows," Brocklehurst said.
