AI Transforms GCC Hiring in India
India’s Global Capability Centre (GCC) ecosystem continues to expand rapidly, with a recent Nasscom-Zinnov report projecting more than 2,100 GCCs by FY2026. These centres are expected to employ around 2.36 million professionals and generate nearly $100 billion in revenue, reinforcing India’s position as a global innovation and operations hub.
However, beneath this growth story lies a significant talent challenge. As artificial intelligence and automation become integral to business operations, companies are increasingly prioritizing specialized skills over large-scale hiring.
Industry leaders note that GCCs are adopting a cautious hiring approach. Organizations are focusing on quality and expertise rather than workforce expansion, particularly as AI automates many routine and repetitive tasks.
This shift is having a direct impact on entry-level recruitment. Traditional roles that once served as stepping stones for fresh graduates are shrinking, while demand for AI, data science, cybersecurity, cloud, and advanced digital skills continues to rise.
Although India produces a vast pool of engineering talent, only a fraction currently possesses industry-ready AI capabilities. As GCCs evolve into centers of innovation, bridging the AI skills gap will be critical to sustaining India’s leadership in the global capability centre landscape.
