AI Trends for 2020: IBM
2019-12-24IBM Research has been a pioneer of AI Research since its inception and each year we make advancements that are focused on enabling AI solutions people can trust. 2019 was no different, as IBM Researchers published 175 AI papers, IBM Project Debater took on champion debater Harish Natarajan in February 2019 and launched the open-source AI Explainability 360 toolkit. IBM Research India contributes significantly to AI research and their contributions in the areas of advance, trusted and scalable AI have helped establish IBM's thought leadership in AI.
Sharing a sneak peek into the future of AI and how it will evolve in 2020, Sriram Raghavan - Vice President, IBM Research AI has released a blog to unveil predictions for AI in 2020. According to his blog, the three themes that will shape the advancement of AI will be: automation, natural language processing (NLP), and trust. Based on these themes, his predictions for AI in 2020 are -
#1 - AI will understand more, so it can do more - Breakthrough techniques will help AI learn with less data, better understand human language.
#2 - AI won’t take your job, but it will change how you work - AI will take on easily automated tasks, while workers lean into soft skills
#3 - AI will engineer AI for trust - Component will infuse trust throughout the AI lifecycle, building confidence in AIs recommendations
#4 - AI’s appetite for energy demands greener tech- The material and software AI is based on will be designed for energy efficiency
#5 - AI-powered lab assistants will discover new materials - AI will drive breakthroughs for new industry products
