Apple is warning iPhone users about a serious security problem and is asking them to turn off the AirPlay feature right away. The issue has been named the "AirBorne" flaw, and it could allow hackers to break into your device.
AirPlay & Associated Risk
AirPlay is a tool that lets you stream music, videos, or photos from your iPhone to other smart devices like TVs and speakers. A cybersecurity company called Oligo, based in Tel Aviv, found 23 security issues linked to AirPlay. These problems exist in both Apple's own AirPlay system and the software used by other companies to make their devices work with AirPlay.
If your iPhone is on the same Wi-Fi network as a hacker, they could take control of your device without you doing anything. This kind of attack is called a zero-click attack. Hackers could install malware, steal your data, or spy on you.
Oligo’s Chief Technology Officer, Gal Elbaz, said that many devices may never get fixed because they use the same software that is now vulnerable. "The problem comes from one piece of software that affects many devices," he added.
Apple has recently warned users multiple times about security threats. In February, it reported “extremely sophisticated” attacks that could bypass USB Restricted Mode on locked devices, potentially targeting specific individuals. Apple urged users to update their devices to stay protected against such exploits.
What should we do?
Turn off AirPlay on your iPhone.
Update your iPhone to the latest software version as soon as possible.
Taking these steps will help protect your phone from this serious threat.
