The cooperative-led Bharat Taxi platform is preparing for a wider rollout after a successful pilot in Delhi, positioning itself as a driver-first mobility alternative with transparent pricing, zero commission, and integrated urban transport options.
The Bharat Taxi app is expected to officially launch across Delhi and several other Indian cities by the end of January, following a strong response during its pilot phase. The ride-hailing platform, built on a cooperative model, aims to reshape urban mobility by placing drivers at the centre of its business framework.
Introduced on a trial basis in Delhi in early December, the app has already recorded encouraging traction. During the pilot period, the platform averaged around 5,500 rides per day, with a significant share originating from airport transfers. Rides were booked across multiple categories, including taxis, autos and two-wheelers. More than 1.4 lakh drivers have registered on the platform so far, reflecting growing interest from the driver community.
Cooperative model with driver benefits
Bharat Taxi is promoted by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, a consortium of prominent cooperative and financial institutions from the agriculture, dairy and rural finance ecosystem. The platform is designed to reduce drivers’ dependence on private aggregators by making them active stakeholders rather than service providers alone.
Unlike conventional ride-hailing apps that charge commissions ranging from 20% to 30% per trip, Bharat Taxi does not deduct any commission from drivers’ earnings. Instead, registered drivers are eligible for annual dividends, a share in cooperative profits and insurance coverage, strengthening long-term income security.
Focus on fair pricing and safety
The app offers a wide range of transport options, including two-wheelers, auto-rickshaws and four-wheelers, while eliminating surge pricing to ensure consistent and transparent fares for passengers. Built-in features such as live location tracking, verified driver profiles and ride-sharing details enhance rider confidence and safety.
Bharat Taxi has also been integrated with metro services to support multi-modal commuting and has partnered with local law enforcement agencies to reinforce security measures. As it prepares for a broader rollout, the platform is positioning itself as a sustainable, inclusive alternative in India’s competitive app-based mobility market.
