Cashfree Payments has introduced a payments extension designed to enable transactions directly within AI-powered chat applications. Unveiled at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in collaboration with Mastercard and Swiggy, the solution allows businesses to accept payments natively within conversational interfaces such as ChatGPT and Claude.
The platform enables merchants to process UPI and card payments directly within chat interfaces, eliminating the need for users to switch to external payment pages. It also supports passkey-based biometric authentication for card transactions, offering a secure alternative to traditional OTP-based verification.
Bridging the Gap in Conversational Commerce
The launch comes as conversational AI gains traction across industries, but payment integration remains a challenge. While AI applications have advanced in areas such as discovery and personalization, transactions often require users to leave the chat environment, leading to friction and drop-offs.
Cashfree Here addresses this gap by acting as a native payments layer for AI applications built on platforms like OpenAI’s Apps SDK and Anthropic’s MCP framework. By embedding payment capabilities directly into conversations, businesses can offer seamless checkout experiences while reducing integration complexity.
According to company executives, the shift reflects a broader evolution in commerce, where user interactions are increasingly driven by conversational interfaces rather than traditional browsing.
