The feature analyses writing patterns from connected workplace services such as Gmail, Slack and Google Drive, helping professionals maintain a consistent voice across AI-generated messages and documents without relying on their direct ChatGPT inputs.
OpenAI has introduced a new personalisation capability for ChatGPT Work that allows the AI assistant to better replicate the way an individual writes. Rather than producing broadly worded AI-generated drafts, the feature is designed to recognise recurring characteristics in a user’s professional communication and apply them when generating new content.
The system can identify patterns ranging from frequently used expressions and preferred wording to capitalisation habits and distinctive sign-offs. According to OpenAI, these small stylistic characteristics can collectively help ChatGPT produce content that more closely resembles the user’s normal writing style.
The feature is particularly aimed at workplace communication, where maintaining a consistent personal voice across emails, documents and messages can be important.
Connected workplace apps power personalisation
ChatGPT Work can learn a user’s writing patterns from information available through connected workplace applications. Users can connect services including Gmail, Google Drive, Slack and SharePoint, allowing ChatGPT to analyse relevant emails, messages and documents to understand their communication style.
The system looks at elements such as vocabulary, commonly used phrases, sentence construction, tone and other recurring writing patterns. These signals are then used to guide the generation of future text, allowing responses and drafts to adopt characteristics associated with the user’s established writing style.
Importantly, the personalisation process described by OpenAI does not rely on content that users directly type into ChatGPT. Instead, the feature draws its understanding of writing style from connected workplace applications.
How to enable the writing style feature
Users with access to the feature can activate it through ChatGPT on the web. The process involves opening Settings, navigating to Personalisation, selecting Writing Style and choosing the relevant option.
Once activated, the customised writing behaviour is expected to carry across the user’s ChatGPT interactions on both web and mobile.
The feature is currently available to paid ChatGPT users on the web who have access to ChatGPT Work capabilities. OpenAI’s move highlights the growing focus on making AI-generated content less generic and more aligned with the communication habits of individual users, particularly in professional environments where authenticity and consistency can influence how AI-assisted content is received.
