Cisco Innovations Take Aim at Data Center

The burgeoning data centre market in India has propelled Cisco to share its plans to grow and strengthen its market in the space. In addition, Cisco has adopted a simplified approach with the Unified Computing System (UCS) and its 'fabric-based computing' approach.

"At Cisco, we aim to bring together network, compute and virtualization technologies into one unified system. We are confident of revolutionizing data center management by offering flexibility and taking advantage of the role that the network plays in addressing key aspects such as security, scalability and interoperability," said Pramodh Menon, Sr. VP, Cisco India & SAARC.

Chief among the announcements made by Cisco is the second generation of Cisco's Unified Computing System (UCS) range.

According to Cisco with new compute, I/O, management and developer capabilities the second-generation platform delivers four times the compute and bandwidth capacities than its predecessor.

Cisco added that the second generation Unified Computing System (UCS) will help accelerate virtualisation projects by delivering a higher performance computing architecture that brings together compute, network, storage access and virtualisation resources in a single energy efficient system.
