Dell Wyse: Focusing the enterprise portfolio

Dell Wyse India
As Dell remains committed to broaden its portfolio of end user devices, it is in the process of building up its capabilities in virtual desktop solutions.
In recent past, Dell has made some acquisitions which show that channel has started an important role in Dell’s scheme of things. Wyse technologies, a leader in client cloud computing solutions, is one such acquisition which has helped to expand Dell’s desktop virtualization capabilities and provide fresh solutions and services opportunities for a comprehensive range of enterprise offerings.
VARINDIA spoke to Santosh Pandey, Country Manager, Dell Wyse India, about bringing these new IT solutions to market and Dell’s vision for the cloud.
Santosh says that a fast change in customers’ perceptions about Dell is being seen as the company brings new solutions to its customers and thereby building a vibrant enterprise portfolio. He sees the acquisition of Wyse as a key component to Dell’s build out.
The Dell Wyse portfolio includes thin, zero and cloud PC client solutions with advanced management, desktop virtualization and cloud software supporting desktops, laptops and next generation mobile devices. Dell Wyse has shipped more than 20 million units and has over 200 million people interacting with their products each day, enabling the leading private, public, hybrid and government cloud implementations worldwide.
Dell’s acquisition of Wyse is testament to its commitment to the end-client arena. “Offering value to our customers end-to-end remains a top priority with us. Dell is now able to offer a comprehensive portfolio to the customers in the end-user device market.”
Commitment to Channel
Historically, Dell has been known as not-so-channel-friendly company. However, in the recent past, Dell has made it amply clear that it means business with the partners. The acquisition of Wyse Technology proves the point. “The perception that Dell is not one of the most channel-friendly companies is a history now. As a matter of fact, in the last one year 37 percent of total revenue of Dell was contributed by the channel. The figure is slightly high when it comes in the context of India,” says Santosh.
He adds, “Partnership is of utmost importance to reach out to the customers. When you want to cater to the requirements of every set of customers of different sizes, a vibrant partnership is the need of the hour.”
In order to deliver the Wyse solutions for India, Dell has been expanding both the scope and capabilities of its channel partner. “We have identified more than fifty partners including SIs who have some kind of capabilities and expertise in virtualization and cloud computing business. Apart from training the partners, a desktop virtualization certification program for them has been introduced.”
Dell Wyse “Project Ophelia”
Today, people are increasingly looking to take and securely access their personal and professional content wherever they go. Despite rapid advances in mobile technology, however, they still face challenges when it comes to securely accessing desired information when they are away from the office. There is no easy way, for example, to access photos, music or video from a personal cloud or entertainment subscription when away from a PC, smartphone or tablet. Equally, professionals find it difficult to securely access and share work applications, presentations and content if they are away from their usual devices, or worse, if their mobile devices are misplaced or fail during travel. It is also difficult for IT organizations to enable and manage access to enterprise apps and content for highly mobile users, especially those who may be without their preferred laptop, tablet or smartphone.
Dell has recently unveiled a solution that extends the value of cloud client computing to the next level, enabling people to manage the increasing convergence of their work lives and personal lives by using a compact, portable device to access not only secured professional assets, but also personal content via the cloud. The ultra-compact multimedia-capable device, called Dell Wyse “Project Ophelia”, is slightly larger than a USB memory stick and enables users to convert any capable TV or monitor into a functioning interactive personal display device without using a computer, tablet or smartphone.
Built on Dell Wyse software technology, Project Ophelia transforms ordinary displays into a window to entertainment, communications and a person’s own personal cloud. The device also allows business users to instantly turn a display into a flexible, securely managed, communications-enabled thin client for work, demos or presentations. These capabilities are packed into advice barely larger than a USB stick that is self-powered through a monitor and easily fits inside your pocket.
