The Japanese logistics major will collaborate with India's semiconductor mission on supply chain solutions, as it eyes the country as a strategic hub and targets ¥80 billion in Indian Ocean Rim revenue by FY2028.
The NX Group (Nippon Express Group) and the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at SEMICON India 2026, setting up a framework to support India's semiconductor ecosystem through specialised logistics expertise and supply chain solutions.
The agreement was signed on September 18, the exhibition's second day, in the presence of Amitesh Kumar Sinha, CEO of the India Semiconductor Mission, and Katsuhito Kobayashi, Executive Officer and CEO for the South Asia and Oceania region at Nippon Express (South Asia & Oceania) Pte Ltd.
Under the MOU, the two sides will share information and hold discussions on semiconductor-related logistics needs, infrastructure and supply chain resilience. The collaboration is meant to help the NX Group and ISM address logistics bottlenecks and build a sustainable semiconductor ecosystem in India, as the country expands its chip manufacturing ambitions and works to link manufacturers, suppliers, logistics providers and global markets. Reliable logistics, the companies note, are essential for moving specialised equipment, components and materials across the semiconductor supply chain.
End-to-end solutions on display
At the event, the NX Group showcased its end-to-end logistics offerings, spanning air and ocean freight, customs clearance, warehousing, domestic transport, factory delivery, installation support and outbound logistics. The company said this network supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Semicon 2.0 initiative, which aims to build a resilient chip ecosystem linking manufacturing sites, suppliers and international markets.
Kobayashi said the NX Group sets itself apart by offering logistics solutions that extend across the entire supply chain rather than transportation alone, and that this approach supports the Semicon 2.0 vision for India's chip ecosystem from a logistics standpoint.
India as a hub for regional growth
The NX Group regards India as a strategic growth market for its long-term expansion. Through its Indian Ocean Rim Strategy, the company is building up operations across the Middle East and East, West and Southern Africa, and has set up an Indian Ocean Rim Strategy Office in Mumbai to coordinate this push. The group has set a target of ¥80 billion, roughly $500 million, in revenue from the Indian Ocean Rim region by FY2028, with India serving as an operational base connecting the country to markets across the region.
The company said it plans to keep supporting India's semiconductor ambitions through high-quality logistics, strategic partnerships and continued investment in infrastructure and capabilities, positioning itself alongside the country's push to become a globally competitive chip manufacturing hub.
