Formerly Twitter (X) is now hiding what posts users like from other users. The news was made official in a post Wednesday morning from Elon Musk as the site update was being rolled out.
Elon Musk has unveiled a new feature on X that hides users' likes by default. "Private likes" will be made available, enabling users to show their support for material without it being visible to the public.
According to the post, users will still be able to see which posts they have liked themselves and who liked their own posts, but not who liked someone else’s posts.
Previously, users on X (formerly Twitter) could see the number of likes a post received. Now, with the new update, only the post's author can see the like count. Other users can still see who has liked a particular post, but the total number of likes is hidden.
Elon Musk's X platform's decision to conceal likes on users' posts represents a significant move towards prioritizing content quality and user well-being over social validation.
Musk highlighted the value of allowing likes without worrying about criticism and the modification is aimed to safeguard users' reputations and discourage bad activity.
By reducing the emphasis on likes, X aims to create a more authentic and engaging user experience, potentially benefiting users' mental health and promoting a more inclusive online environment. While this change may require adjustments for influencers and brands, it aligns with a growing focus on meaningful interactions and quality content in social media.
