Jack Dorsey, who is known as the former CEO of Twitter (now X.com), has officially rolled out his recently announced Bluetooth messaging application dubbed BitChat. The application is available to download on the Apple App Store as of now.
The app has been designed to provide seamless offline communication, and it works on Bluetooth mesh networks to let users chat with all other users nearby without any WiFi or cellular network connection.
According to reports, Dorsey wrote the code for the application over a weekend at the beginning of July. The app reportedly comes with a minimalistic interface and no login ecosystem. That means users can simply download the app, set a display name on it, and start sending messages to the people in their Bluetooth range, which is around 100 meters.
Bitchat works on establishing encrypted communication between nearby phones. When a user moves, their smartphones automatically create local Bluetooth clusters, passing messages from one device to another. This allows messages to reach peers available in the standard Bluetooth range, without the support of any network.
The app interestingly will be used in a lot of places where there is no or limited access to the internet and cellular network. Furthermore, BitChat also offers options for group chat or rooms, which can be named with hashtags and secured with passwords as well.
