Facebook mulls drone firm purchase to bring internet access to remote regions

According to a TechCrunch report, Social networking giant Facebook is mulling the purchase of US drone firm Titan Aerospace with a view to making internet access a distinct reality in the world's most remote regions.

The prospective buyout seems to be a part of the Social Networking Giant’s its Internet.org campaign to make it easier for people across the world to have internet access.

As a consequence of the fructification of the deal, Titan Aerospace would start building 11,000 of their Solara 60 drones. These solar-powered drone high-flying drones can fly at an altitude of 65,000 feet  (20km) for up to five years, transmitting data in a similar way to satellite internet connections.

Last year, Google has launched Project Loon, which aims to use solar-powered air balloons to bring the Internet connectivity to remote regions.

This goes on to demonstrate that internet companies see value in connecting the underdeveloped part of the world to the internet.
