Cybercriminals are exploiting excitement around Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) with a fake website claiming to sell a leaked copy while secretly deploying a cryptocurrency wallet drainer.
The fraudulent site mimics a legitimate GTA 6 fan page, displaying convincing release information, maps and countdowns alongside offers for a supposed leaked version.
Victims choosing cryptocurrency payment are asked to connect their wallets.
Malicious code then analyzes balances and prepares transactions designed to steal assets rather than collect the advertised price.
The attack can target wallets across multiple blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Base and Fantom.
More dangerously, attackers can seek permissions allowing them to transfer tokens or NFTs later.
The malware also profiles wallet holdings and reports their estimated value to operators.
The campaign demonstrates how cybercriminals combine popular brands, social engineering and crypto infrastructure to create convincing fraud.
Users should never trust unofficial game downloads or “leaks.”
Connecting a wallet is not necessarily the final danger—approving a malicious transaction or permission request can turn curiosity into a complete crypto-wallet loss.
