Google has announced the Web Guide, a new experimental feature that organizes the Google Search results page using artificial intelligence. The company claims the feature makes it simpler to locate online pages and information. Web Guide will be available only to users who participate in the Search Labs experiment. Those users can click on the “Web” filter or tab on the Google Search results page.
Web Guide uses the same “query fanout technique” as AI Mode, allowing Gemini to break down queries and make several searches at once. The feature itself is powered by Gemini, which helps Google better understand the search query and then link to other pages that could have been missed if using a traditional Google Search.
What is interesting is that Web Guide brings back some elements of traditional search, like showing links at the top of results page instead of bombarding the user with an AI Overview and YouTube videos that take up almost half the page.
Web Guide can also be used to ask more detailed or specific questions. The AI results will attempt to address the different parts of the question.
The user can still switch back to regular web results, but Google is already saying it plans on bringing it to the “All” tab as well.
