Google has begun rolling out a new artificial intelligence-driven feature in Gmail aimed at helping users better manage their inboxes. The feature, known as “AI Inbox,” is currently being introduced in beta for select users subscribed to the company’s premium AI Ultra plan.
First announced earlier this year, the AI Inbox is designed to reduce email clutter by automatically organising messages into concise summaries, highlighting urgent tasks, and surfacing key updates. Reports indicate that the feature is now being tested with a limited group of users before a wider rollout.
Smarter Organisation with AI
Unlike the traditional inbox that displays emails in chronological order, the AI Inbox presents information in a more structured and user-friendly format. It appears as a separate section above the regular inbox, offering a snapshot of important updates without requiring users to open individual emails.
The feature includes a “Suggested to-dos” section, where actionable items such as bill payments, reminders, or urgent messages are highlighted. Each task is linked directly to the relevant email and can be marked as completed, making it easier for users to stay organised.
Less time-sensitive emails are grouped under a “Topics to catch up on” section. These may include updates related to travel, events, or health, allowing users to quickly scan through non-urgent information.
Privacy and Availability
The AI Inbox is powered by Gemini 3, Google’s latest artificial intelligence model. According to the company, the feature operates within a secure processing environment designed to protect user data. Google has stated that personal data used by the feature is not utilised to train its AI systems, and users retain the option to disable AI functionalities through settings.
Additionally, the system identifies priority contacts or “VIPs” based on user interaction patterns, ensuring that important messages stand out automatically.
Currently, the AI Inbox feature is available in beta for subscribers of Google’s AI Ultra plan, which is priced at ₹24,999 per month. A broader rollout timeline has not yet been confirmed, but the move highlights Google’s continued push to integrate AI more deeply into everyday productivity tools.
