Google’s latest update brings AI Mode to Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu, while introducing Search Live, which merges voice and camera inputs for real-time, context-aware search in English and Hindi
Google is significantly upgrading its search capabilities in India with the launch of two major features aimed at enhancing user experience and accessibility. The company announced that its AI-powered search tool, AI Mode, is expanding to support seven additional Indian languages. Simultaneously, it is rolling out Search Live, an innovative feature that allows users to search using a combination of voice and camera for more interactive, real-time assistance.
AI Mode, already available in English and Hindi, has seen strong engagement in India, with users typically asking longer, more detailed queries compared to traditional search. It has become a popular tool for schoolwork, content creation, travel planning, and product comparisons.
With the latest update, AI Mode will now support Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu, making the tool accessible to millions more users in their native languages. Rather than simply translating queries, Google’s AI—powered by its custom Gemini model for Search—can understand cultural and linguistic nuances to provide more relevant results. The language rollout will begin over the next week.
Search Live introduced for real-time, multimodal queries
In a parallel move, Google has also introduced Search Live in India for English and Hindi users. This new feature combines voice and camera inputs, enabling users to interact with Google in a more conversational and hands-on way. For instance, someone preparing a recipe at home can use their phone’s camera to show ingredients and ask Google how to use them step-by-step—receiving instant, visual-guided help.
Search Live builds on India’s strong adoption of voice and visual search, offering a more intuitive alternative to typing queries. Users can access it through the Google app by tapping the new ‘Live’ icon or by opening Google Lens and selecting ‘Live’.
These updates underline Google’s commitment to making search smarter and more inclusive, empowering users across India to access information seamlessly—regardless of language or literacy level.
