Google Photos is launching a new AI-driven Wardrobe tool that turns users’ photo libraries into a smart digital closet, enabling outfit organisation, styling suggestions, and virtual try-ons starting first on Android devices.
Google Photos is set to introduce a new artificial intelligence-powered feature called “Wardrobe,” aimed at transforming how users interact with their personal photo libraries. Rolling out initially on Android in summer 2026, the feature will later expand to iOS devices. The tool is designed to automatically detect clothing items from images stored in Google Photos and organise them into a structured, digital wardrobe that users can access anytime.
The company said the feature will help users rediscover their personal fashion history by turning everyday photos into a searchable and interactive clothing archive. Instead of manually sorting images, the AI system will identify apparel items such as tops, bottoms, accessories, and footwear, grouping them into categories for easier navigation and styling inspiration.
AI-powered styling and outfit creation tools
Beyond organisation, the Wardrobe feature introduces interactive styling capabilities. Users will be able to filter clothing by category, browse past outfits, and revisit forgotten items stored in their photo collections. The system also allows users to mix and match clothing pieces to create new outfit combinations, which can be saved or shared as digital moodboards for occasions such as weddings, travel, or workwear planning.
A key highlight is the virtual try-on functionality, which enables users to preview how selected outfits may look before wearing them. By selecting individual clothing items and activating the “Try it on” option, users can visualise outfit combinations digitally, adding a new layer of convenience to personal styling.
Gradual rollout across platforms
According to Google, the feature will begin rolling out on Android devices during the summer of 2026, with a broader release planned for iOS users later in the year. The phased rollout will allow the company to refine performance and user experience across platforms.
The introduction of Wardrobe reflects Google’s growing focus on integrating AI into everyday consumer tools, expanding beyond photo storage into lifestyle-oriented applications that combine organisation, creativity, and personal expression.
