When GPS Goes Dark: The Autonomy Problem
GPS has become the foundation of autonomous navigation across transportation, defense, public safety, logistics, and critical infrastructure. However, growing threats such as signal jamming, spoofing, cyberattacks, and urban interference are exposing the risks of relying on a single positioning system.
In GPS-denied environments, autonomous vehicles, drones, and robots can lose accurate navigation, creating operational and security challenges. The focus is shifting from single-source positioning to multi-layered navigation architectures capable of maintaining operations even when satellite signals are unavailable. These resilient systems enhance mission continuity while reducing exposure to electronic warfare and cyber threats.
As autonomy expands across defense, smart infrastructure, and industrial operations, GPS-denied performance is becoming a critical procurement requirement. The next generation of autonomous systems will be defined not by GPS dependence, but by their ability to navigate intelligently and securely under any conditions.
