In the aftermath of the devastating Ahmedabad–London flight crash, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Meghaninagar area in Ahmedabad on Friday, the crash site of Air India Flight 171, which claimed the lives of 241 passengers. The tragic Ahmedabad flight tragedy, involving a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, has emerged as one of India’s worst aviation disasters in recent memory, raising pressing Air India safety concerns.
Describing the event as “heartbreaking beyond words,” PM Modi personally met the lone survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh—an Indian-origin British national—at a local hospital. He also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that the government would stand by them in this hour of grief.

Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran announced a ₹1 crore compensation for the family of each victim. He further committed to covering all medical expenses for those injured and pledged comprehensive support, including trauma care and rehabilitation services.
Going beyond individual aid, Tata Group has also announced assistance in rebuilding the BJ Medical College hostel, a gesture meant to honour the community and strengthen the city’s healthcare infrastructure in light of the tragedy.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the Air India latest update, with aviation experts and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) focusing on the technical aspects and flight data. The airline is expected to issue detailed safety review findings in the coming days.
This heartbreaking incident has intensified the national conversation on aviation safety protocols and emergency preparedness, with growing demands for accountability and reforms to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
