The update is aimed at making profile curation more flexible, particularly for group photos, creator collaborations and other shared content, while keeping ownership and placement of the original post unchanged.
Instagram is rolling out a new feature that gives users more control over the content displayed on their profiles. The platform now allows users to add posts they have been tagged in directly to their main profile grid without having to upload or republish the content themselves.
The feature could prove useful after group occasions such as parties, concerts, holidays and nights out, where photos are often posted by someone else. Instead of downloading the image and sharing it again, users can now choose to display the existing tagged post on their own profile.
The original post remains in its existing location, meaning the feature does not create a duplicate publication or move the original content. Users can simply choose whether they also want that tagged post to appear on their own profile grid.
Three ways to feature tagged posts
Instagram offers three ways to add a tagged post to the main profile grid. Users can select the option directly from the notification they receive through direct messages when someone tags them.
The second option is available from the tagged post itself. Users can also access their Tagged tab, where they can view posts in which they have been tagged and select the content they want to feature on their profile.
The feature also gives users control after adding a post. If they later decide that the content no longer fits their profile, they can remove it from the main grid. The original post will remain available in the Tagged tab even after it is removed from the profile.
For creators, the update could offer a convenient way to showcase collaborations. When several creators are tagged in the same post, each can choose to feature it on their profile without having to publish the content again. This could be particularly useful for collaborative campaigns involving brands and multiple creators.
Instagram expands profile customisation
The latest update is part of Instagram’s broader efforts to give users more control over their profiles and content. Earlier, the platform introduced an option that allows users to rearrange posts on their main profile grid, giving them greater flexibility in how their content is presented.
Instagram has also added tools aimed at simplifying content creation and management. Its First Draft feature can automatically trim selected video clips, remove pauses and create an initial cut. Another tool, Replace Audio, allows users to change the music associated with an existing post.
With the latest tagged-post feature, Instagram is giving users another way to curate their profiles without requiring additional uploads. For everyday users as well as creators, the update offers a simpler way to showcase relevant content while keeping the original post intact.
