Intel Acquires API management company Mashery

The chip maker Intel has notched yet another acquisition. Intending to expand into software and services, Intel has now purchased Mashery, which is a provider or API management tools. If reports are to be believed, Intel’s latest acquisition will close for over $180 million.

Founded in 2006, Mashery offers a set of tools for managing APIs (application programming interfaces). Mashery's holistic approach to API management encompasses working with clients to craft profitable platform strategies, ensuring fast, reliable API access, and facilitating relationships with its network of 200,000 developers.

A spokesperson from Intel said, “Mashery will become part of the Intel services division and is part of the company's software and services group. Intel plans to incorporate Mashery's technology into a suite of services to power cloud services, digital storefronts, location services, network services and security.”

Presently, Mashery has about 125 employees; most of them will be retained post acquisition and will be given jobs in Intel’s Internet services division.
