Johnson & Johnson (J&J) is found guilty and been fined worth Rs. 230 crore for not passing on GST rate cut benefit, according to The National Anti Profiteering Authority.
The company has been directed to deposit the amount to Consumer Welfare Funds of the central government within 3 months.
While enacting the GST Act, the government had included provisions in the law that prevents the manufactures of the goods or providers of services from making undue profits by retaining or not passing the reduction of the rates of GST to the end customers. The NAA has been constituted to keep a keen eye on such companies.
There were complaints about many consumer goods manufacturers against which the DGAP (Director General of Anti- Profiteering) took up for investigation.
