The Income Tax Department has selected LTIMindtree Ltd, a leading IT services and consulting firm, to implement the highly anticipated PAN 2.0 project, which promises to streamline and modernize Permanent Account Number (PAN) and Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number (TAN) services in India. As the Managed Service Provider (MSP), LTIMindtree will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, operations, and maintenance of this transformative project.
According to officials, the PAN 2.0 system is expected to go live within 18 months and will serve as a one-stop platform for a wide range of services, including PAN and TAN allotment, updates and corrections, Aadhaar-PAN linking, re-issuance requests, online PAN validation, and more. This move aims to simplify PAN/TAN processes, enhance user experience, and strengthen grievance redressal mechanisms, ensuring faster and more transparent services for taxpayers across the country.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) had approved the ₹1,435-crore PAN 2.0 project in November 2024, underscoring its significance in improving India’s digital tax infrastructure. Importantly, existing PAN cardholders will not need to apply for a new PAN under this upgraded system, as their current details will remain valid and integrated into the new framework.
At present, PAN-related services are fragmented across three different platforms—the e-Filing Portal, UTIITSL Portal, and Protean e-Gov Portal. PAN 2.0 will integrate these services into a single, unified portal, improving accessibility and convenience for users while reducing processing delays.
With this development, LTIMindtree strengthens its position as a key technology partner for the government in digital transformation projects, leveraging its expertise in IT infrastructure modernization and enterprise-grade solutions.
By consolidating various services under one platform, PAN 2.0 is set to significantly enhance efficiency, reduce redundancy, and offer taxpayers a seamless experience. This initiative marks another milestone in the government’s push toward Digital India, reinforcing its commitment to building a robust, transparent, and taxpayer-friendly ecosystem.
