Bollywood actress Kajol recently ignited a lively debate by suggesting that marriage should come with an expiry date and a renewal option, rather than being an indefinite commitment. Appearing on the talk show "Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle," she expressed that since no one can guarantee marrying the right person at the right time, having a renewal possibility would allow couples to reassess their relationship. She argued that a fixed term could prevent people from enduring long-term unhappiness.
The suggestion drew mixed reactions, with co-host Twinkle Khanna, Vicky Kaushal, and Kriti Sanon disagreeing humorously, while Kajol held firm on her stance. Twinkle playfully remarked that marriage is not a washing machine that can be renewed.
Kajol's husband, Ajay Devgn, later weighed in separately, saying that love has become “casual” and lost its deeper meaning in modern relationships. The couple, married since 1999, remain one of Bollywood’s most admired pairs.
Kajol’s comments reflect emerging conversations on relationship dynamics in urban India, where personal happiness and compatibility often take precedence over tradition. Though India still maintains low divorce rates, such debates indicate shifting societal norms around marriage and partnership in the digital age.
