Marvell to invest $250 million in India, double workforce to expand AI and semiconductor R&D

Marvell Technology plans to invest $250 million in India over the next three years to expand its semiconductor research and development operations, strengthen engineering capabilities and double its workforce, reinforcing the country's growing role in the company's global AI and data infrastructure strategy.
The investment will be used to expand Marvell's technology, talent and infrastructure footprint, including the inauguration of a new wing at its Bengaluru development centre and the expansion of its Hyderabad operations.
The company said the additional capacity will support the design and development of semiconductor technologies for artificial intelligence, cloud computing and data infrastructure applications.
"India has become a strategic hub of engineering excellence for Marvell, playing a critical role in advancing the infrastructure technologies that power the world's leading hyperscalers and cloud providers," said Navin Bishnoi, Vice President and India Country Manager at Marvell.
The announcement coincides with Marvell's 20th anniversary of operations in India. Since establishing its Bengaluru centre in 2006, India has grown into the company's second-largest global R&D organisation.

Engineering teams across Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune are involved in advanced semiconductor development, including work on 2-nanometre and smaller process technologies, high-speed analog intellectual property, subsystem architecture, firmware development and end-to-end silicon design. The company said its India teams also play a key role in applying AI tools to improve semiconductor engineering productivity.
Marvell said the fresh investment reflects increasing demand for semiconductors that support AI workloads, cloud infrastructure and hyperscale data centres. The expanded engineering presence is expected to strengthen the company's global innovation network while accelerating the development of next-generation networking, connectivity and data infrastructure technologies.
Beyond research and development, the company said it will continue collaborating with universities, startups, industry associations and government organisations to support the growth of India's semiconductor ecosystem. These initiatives include research partnerships, internship programmes, curriculum development and mentoring for emerging semiconductor startups.
Marvell also highlighted its recently launched Marvell Scholarship for Technical and Engineering Merit (MSTEM) programme, which provides financial assistance and industry exposure to engineering students pursuing careers in semiconductors and artificial intelligence. The programme received more than 7,000 applications, with 100 students selected for scholarships earlier this year.
The investment adds to a series of expansion announcements by global semiconductor companies as India positions itself as a strategic hub for chip design and engineering. Growing demand for AI infrastructure and advanced data centre technologies is driving multinational chipmakers to expand engineering operations in the country, leveraging India's deep semiconductor design talent while strengthening global research and development capabilities.
