Designed for sports and outdoor use, Meta’s new Oakley-branded smart glasses combine a rugged wraparound design with AI-powered voice controls, advanced cameras, and localised features, marking the company’s second major wearable launch in India.
Meta has expanded its smart eyewear portfolio in India with the launch of the Oakley Meta Vanguard, a new pair of AI-powered smart glasses aimed squarely at outdoor sports and fitness enthusiasts. The launch follows the earlier debut of Ray-Ban Meta Glasses in the country and signals Meta’s intent to diversify its wearable lineup beyond lifestyle-focused designs.
Priced from ₹52,300, the Oakley Meta Vanguard will be available through Sunglass Hut, LensCrafters, and select optical retail outlets. Meta is offering the device in four configurations, differentiated by frame colours and lens options, to cater to varied usage preferences.
At the core of the Vanguard is a centrally positioned 12-megapixel camera capable of recording videos at up to 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second. Users can also capture short-form clips in higher 3K resolution, with footage easily shareable across Meta platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. The camera delivers a 122-degree field of view, enabling hands-free, first-person content capture during activities like cycling and training.
Sports-focused design and controls
Unlike the Ray-Ban Meta glasses, which prioritise everyday styling, the Oakley Meta Vanguard adopts a wraparound frame inspired by Oakley’s performance eyewear. Weighing 66 grams, the glasses are built for durability and comfort, and come with an IP67 rating for resistance against dust and water.
The device uses Oakley’s Prizm lenses, designed to reduce glare and improve visibility by limiting exposure to harsh sunlight, wind, and dust during outdoor use. Meta has also introduced revised physical controls, including a dedicated Action button for camera operations and a secondary customizable button on the inner arm.
AI features, localisation, and connectivity
The Oakley Meta Vanguard integrates open-ear speakers and a five-microphone array, enabling voice calls and hands-free interaction through Meta AI. Indian users benefit from localised support, including Hindi voice commands, media control, and text responses. The glasses also support hands-free UPI Lite payments in Hindi, with actor Deepika Padukone added as one of the AI voice options.
Meta has partnered with Garmin to allow users to access health and workout data from compatible Garmin smartwatches using voice commands. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.3 and Wi-Fi 6E, along with 32GB of internal storage.
Meta claims the glasses deliver up to nine hours of regular use or six hours of music playback, with the charging case extending total battery life by up to 36 hours.
