Musk to form Content Moderation Council for Twitter
As Twitter formally became the private property of Elon Musk, he will form a content moderation council embracing widely diverse viewpoints. Musk said, “No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes. The bird is free. Let the good times roll.”
The content moderation council of Twitter includes advisory groups that look at topics online such as online safety and harassment, human and digital rights, suicide prevention and mental health, child sexual exploitation, and dehumanisation. Some of the organisations that are a part of it include the GLAAD, the Anti-Defamation League, the Committee to Protect Journalists, the Human Rights Foundation, and the Trevor Project, among many others.
Elon Musk finally sealed the $44 billion Twitter acquisition deal with lots of corporate chicanery, involving insults, threats and lawsuits. The deal drew mixed reactions, with former US president Donald Trump cheering the change of leadership on a platform that had banned him, while activists warned of an increase in harassment and misinformation.
However, Musk made it clear that he has no plans yet to make any changes to the social media platform’s content moderation policies. “To be super clear, we have not yet made any changes to Twitter’s content moderation policies,” he tweeted.
