To further deepen its education relationship with India, New Zealand has announced a string of new initiatives. The latest announcement is a joint call for research proposals for Indian and New Zealand academics to increase research collaboration across a range of areas including, but not limited to: food security and agriculture; community development and innovation; health; environment and sustainability; India-New Zealand trade relations; information security; and urban planning and development.
Announced on the occasion of Waitangi Day, New Zealand’s national day, by Education New Zealand’s (ENZ) Regional Director South Asia Ziena Jalil, the programme has acknowledged the multi-faceted education relationship between India and New Zealand.
Ziena Jalil stated, “This call for proposals has been jointly facilitated by Education New Zealand and India’s University Grants Commission (UGC) and will form part of the activity we undertake in India as part of the India-New Zealand Education Council (INZEC) initiative which was announced by both our Prime Ministers.”
“All New Zealand universities feature in the top 500 globally and as a country we are highly regarded internationally in areas such as agriculture and food processing; health; media and entertainment; IT; and tourism and hospitality. Including these sectors as focus areas within the call for research proposals is a deliberate attempt at sharing our experiences with Indian partners,” Jalil said.
Education New Zealand has recently announced expansion of its footprint in India with the establishment of an education promotion and market development role within the New Zealand Consulate General in Mumbai, to complement its existing team in New Delhi. ENZ has also launched a new brand to promote New Zealand as an education destination to Indian students and as a business partner to Indian corporates.
