The acquisition brings NextSlide’s team into OpenAI as the company looks to strengthen ChatGPT’s ability to help users transform prompts, research and documents into polished, editable visual content.
OpenAI has acquired presentation-focused technology startup NextSlide, bringing its team into the company to work on the development of ChatGPT.
The deal was announced by NextSlide founder Ahmed Beshry in a LinkedIn post. While the acquisition has only now been made public, Beshry said the transaction was completed earlier this year. Financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
NextSlide was founded with the goal of simplifying the process of creating professional presentations. According to information previously published on the startup’s website, its technology was designed to turn prompts, notes, documents and research material into presentations that users could subsequently edit and customise.
Beshry said the company was established slightly more than a year ago to address the barriers that often make presentation creation time-consuming, particularly for people without formal design expertise.
NextSlide team joins OpenAI
The founder said the startup’s broader objective extended beyond simply speeding up slide creation. The company wanted to make visual communication more accessible and enable a wider range of users to present their ideas effectively.
Following the acquisition, Beshry confirmed that the NextSlide team has joined OpenAI and will contribute to the development of ChatGPT.
"The NextSlide team is now at OpenAI, helping build ChatGPT. We're excited to continue pursuing that same mission: building AI products that help people create, communicate, and turn their ideas into meaningful work," Beshry said.
He also thanked users and supporters who had helped shape the startup through feedback and engagement during its development.
The acquisition potentially strengthens OpenAI’s capabilities in AI-assisted presentation creation, an area that has attracted growing interest as generative AI tools expand beyond text generation into visual and productivity workflows.
NextSlide’s technology was specifically focused on converting different forms of source material into structured, editable presentations. Bringing its team into OpenAI could allow those capabilities and expertise to be incorporated into ChatGPT’s broader productivity features.
OpenAI expands enterprise AI partnerships
The acquisition comes as OpenAI continues to expand its presence across enterprise technology and specialised AI applications.
Last month, cybersecurity company ReliaQuest partnered with OpenAI through its Daybreak Cyber Partner Program. The initiative is designed to support the adoption of AI in enterprise cybersecurity, with participating organisations receiving opportunities for technical collaboration and access to OpenAI's cyber-focused models.
The NextSlide acquisition adds another dimension to OpenAI's expanding product ecosystem, particularly around workplace productivity and content creation. While the company has not disclosed specific plans for NextSlide's technology, the integration of its team into ChatGPT signals continued investment in AI tools that can help users move from ideas and information to finished work.
